Learn more about my journey as a Boston-based UX/UI Designer & Front-End Developer, my design philosophy, and my passion for crafting intuitive digital experiences.
Hi, I'm Simon Ellensohn, a Freelance Full Stack Developer and Technical Lead based in Hamburg, Germany. Originally from Austria, I have spent over 9 years immersed in the world of high-performance web development, focusing on building systems that are as robust under the hood as they are intuitive on the surface. My journey has taken me from hands-on development to leading technical teams, reinforcing my belief that the best digital products are born from a deep understanding of both backend architecture and frontend precision.
My approach to development is rooted in performance, maintainability, and collaboration. I believe that writing code is just one part of the equation; the real value comes from creating scalable solutions that teams can actually work with.
Clean & Understandable Code: I prioritize clarity over cleverness. I write code that is self-documenting and easy to maintain, ensuring the long-term health of the project.
Tests, Tests, Tests: Stability is non-negotiable. I implement rigorous testing strategies (Pest/PHPUnit/Cypress) to ensure that every deploy is safe and reliable.
Pixel-Perfect Implementation: A solid backend deserves a flawless frontend. I take pride in translating designs into responsive, high-performance interfaces that look exactly as intended.
Knowledge Sharing: I thrive on collaboration. Whether it's mentoring junior developers or documenting architectural decisions, I believe in elevating the whole team, not just the product.
What keeps me excited about this work is the pursuit of optimization. I love the challenge of untangling complex logic and refactoring it into something elegant and efficient. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a system perform flawlessly under load while knowing the codebase is clean and ready for the future.
When I'm not coding or architecting new features, you will likely find me in my sim-racing rig chasing the perfect lap time. I also love to stay active by bouldering and cycling—and true to my Austrian roots, I never miss an opportunity to go skiing when the mountains call. Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to check out my Stack or get in touch if you'd like to collaborate!
